Dear Jack Foxwell:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the challenges you faced during this past academic year and have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENGL 100, FILM 110, POLS 110, SOCY 122 (FW 2018/19) and RELS 163 (W 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should work with an accommodation advisor at QSAS to manage their academics. You may want to consider carrying a lighter course load next year, and you should pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The week 8 drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the recommendation you received from your doctor to meet with a psychiatrist this summer. I also encourage you to reach out to Student Wellness Services upon your return to Queen€™s for additional help and support.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
