Dear Amy Tuer:

I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the difficult extenuating circumstances you were experiencing this year and have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 241 (F 2018) and PSYC 203 (W 2019) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in PSYC 271 and SOCY 200 (F 2018). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request to drop PSYC 241 after the drop deadline date and change your grades to Credit Standing (CR) in PSYC 271 and SOCY 200 (F 2017).

2. To deny your request to drop PSYC 203 (W 2019) after the drop deadline date.

I have granted your request to change your grades to Credit Standing (CR) in PSYC 271 and SOCY 200 and to drop PSYC 241 (F 2018) after the deadline based on the extenuating circumstances presented and the documentation provided.

I have denied your request to drop PSYC 203 (W 2018) as the documentation provided does not cover the Winter term 2019.

I am very concerned about the number of courses you are registered in during the current Summer term and strongly suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in these courses prior the drop date deadlines this term. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline and not to manage their course load. Going forward, I encourage you to work with your Counsellor and your QSAS Advisor to manage both your health and your academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to drop dates.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
