Dear Alexander Laudico,

I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.

I am also willing to grant you late drops in HLTH 101 (F 2018) and PSYC 100, RELS 131 (FW 2018/19) as well as grant you Credit standing in GNDS 125 (W 2019) and POLS 110 (FW 2018/19). Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all the work of the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€

If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will then contact your instructors to seek their input.

I have granted your request based on your medical documentation which confirmed that the evaluation of your health condition is in progress so that appropriate treatments can be put in place. I encourage you to continue to work with your medical team Alexander and to follow through with your plan to carry a lighter course load so you can better manage your health and academics.

As you continue in your course of study it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider:

€¢ Reflect on your program choice. Are you in the right plan for your interests and aptitudes You may want to consider registering in some different first year courses which may well guide you to a Plan that will be better suited to your interests.
€¢ Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance. You may want to schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor to discuss your academic plan for next year (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 613-533-2470). Please note that after July 16th we will not be scheduling 30 minute advising appointments, so it would be best to call prior to July 16th.
€¢ The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
€¢ The Student Wellness Services Centre located in Mitchell Hall offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
€¢ Register with QSAS who can help support both your health and academics by assisting you with accommodations in courses, as required.
€¢ If you encounter extenuating circumstances that inhibit your ability to complete course work, consider seeking Academic Consideration. More information is available at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations

Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8.

Best of luck in your studies next year

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
