Dear Edward Boyle:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you experienced during the 2016/17 academic year and have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in ENGL 234, ENGL 237 (F 2016), ENGL 238, ENGL 257 (W 2017) and ENGL 321, ENGL 356, ENGL 360 (FW 2016-17). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request for Credit in ENGL 234, ENGL 238, ENGL 257, ENGL 321 and ENGL 356 based on your extenuating circumstances and since your grade in those courses is C or lower. Your grade in these courses will appear as CR on your transcript.

2. To deny your request to receive Credit in ENGL 237 and ENGL 360. As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Since your grades in the above noted courses is higher than C, I will not support the granting of CR for these courses.

Edward, let me assure you that a grade of C+ is considered a good grade. In the future, you can certainly explain that there were extenuating circumstances during this year that led to those grades and that that they are not indicative of your abilities if you believe these grades are impeding your progress.
