Dear Harmony Crawford:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop MATH 221 (F 2017) and Extend the Incomplete grades in STAT 263 (W 2017), MATH 384 (F 2017), ECON 255, ECON 351, MATH 112, MATH 339 (W 2018); CLST 205, ECON 212, ENIN 340, MATH 121 (S 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following::

1) Will grant your request to drop MATH 221 and MATH 384 (F 2017) based on the documentation you have submitted.

2) I will deny your request to extend the Incomplete grades in STAT 263 (W 2017), ECON 255, ECON 351, MATH 112, MATH 339 (W 2018); CLST 205, ECON 212, ENIN 340, MATH 121 (S 2018).

Academic Regulation 10.3.4 notes that Incomplete standing in a course is a temporary designation whereby the student had until the end of the following term to complete the course requirements. After that time period has lapsed, the grade reverts to the mark that the student had originally received in the course.

Students are to pause and evaluate their progress in courses by the drop dates and drop courses that they have fallen behind in or may be struggling in and it is clear you did not make that assessment during those terms. Further, in the letter you received on November 24th, 2016 from Associate Dean Johanne Benard, you were advised to take no more than 3-4 courses however you did not heed that advise and in fact during W term 2017 and Fall term 2017 you carried a course load of 6 courses; during Winter term 2018 you carried a course load of 5 courses; and during the summer term 2018 you carried 4 courses when the recommended course load is 2.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. The Office of the Ombudsman can also assist students with advice about policies and procedures. You may contact the Ombudsman at ombuds@queensu.ca or by phone at 613-533-6495.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
