Dear Brooklyn Bastarache:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your request to drop SOCY 122 (FW 2018/19) and LAW 203, PHYS P20, SOCY 227 (W 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition or challenging life circumstances and appeals to drop failed courses late may not be granted in the future if they are based on the same circumstances. Appeals are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute late in the term. During week 7 of the term (just before the drop deadline), please take time to carefully evaluate whether you are keeping up in each of your courses. Evaluate whether you€™ve been doing the readings and completing all assignments or tests on time. If your circumstances are having an impact in your courses you should drop them by week 8 of term. I also encourage you to contact the Student Wellness Services office and meet with a Counsellor. You write in your appeal letter that you feel that would be a good step in the right direction, and I agree. For your information, their offices are located in Mitchell Hall.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
