Dear Evan Sambasivam:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling with health related challenges this past year and particularly during the Fall term 2018. After carefully considering your appeal to drop ECON 310, ECON 351 and ECON 231 (F 2018) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances but also because I see that you have resumed your counselling and that you carried a lighter course load during the winter term so you could focus on your health. I encourage you to continue to work with your support network and suggest that you consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, and work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Going forward, I strongly suggest that you evaluate the impact of your health on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
