I have reviewed your request to register in upper year courses at the University of Toronto on a Letter of Permission for your BA (Honours) degree with a Major concentration in Applied Economics and a Minor concentration in Political Studies. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal I will grant this request.
Please note that the Undergraduate Chair€™s support from the Economics Department was reserved. Dr.Cromb is concerned that you may have difficulty accessing the required courses at the University of Toronto as the courses at this higher level may be set aside for their own students. The Undergraduate Chair also noted that there is a high standard for the learning outcome demands in the Queen€™s courses but he is willing to review the courses you will present in your Letter of Permission application form to determine their eligibility. Please consult with your departments regularly to ensure that the courses you select will properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.
You may now apply for a Letter of Permission through the Faculty of Arts and Science Office. Please allow up to 21 days to receive a response.
Philip I wanted to let you know that you are currently eligible to graduate with your BA General degree in Economics. If you feel you would like to graduate with that degree at our November convocation, please contact asc.registration@queensu.ca to change your degree to a BA GEN ECON so you can then log on to SOLUS and apply to graduate.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office upon completion of the courses. Please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
Finally, please be advised that a student can complete a maximum of 54.0 transfer units towards their BA Honours degree (see Academic Regulation 16.1.3).
