Dear Stuart McEachern:

I was sorry to read of the health related challenges you experienced last year and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENGL 271 and ENGL 218 (W 2019) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in MUSC 104 (F 2018) and ECON 112 (W 2019). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grades in ECON 112 and MUSC 104 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage an ongoing condition. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to work with your doctor and to register with QSAS who can help you manage both your health and academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I was pleased to read that you are planning to take a short break from your studies to focus on your health and I wish you well during this period.
