Dear Paige Boston:

I was sorry to read of the health related challenges you experienced during the 2018/2019 academic year and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 243 (F 2018) and PHIL 271 (W 2019) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing for FREN 250 (W 2019) and POLS 250 (FW 2018/19). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to drop PHIL 271 (W 2019) and grant you Credit standing in FREN 250 (W 2019) and POLS 250 (FW 2018/19) since the health related challenges you experienced during Winter term 2019 as well as your documentation, support the late drop of courses from this time period.

2. I will deny your request to drop POLS 243 (F 2018) past the academic deadline. The documentation you have provided addresses the Winter term 2019 particularly and therefore the timeline of circumstances experienced during Fall term 2018 is not supported by documentation.

Paige, you did not include requests for POLS 264 and POLS 212 in your appeal and perhaps you are finishing those courses up at this time. If however you would like to drop these courses late, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will drop those courses late as well.

Going forward, a good practice for all students is to pause and reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 of term and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and completing your readings and assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute.
