Dear Nancy Chua:

I was sorry to read in your appeal letter of the chronic condition that you struggle with and I commend you for continuing to engage in university courses and academic pursuits. I have reviewed your appeal to change the grade you received in PHIL 257 (FW 2018/19) to Aegrotat standing and extend the Incomplete grade in PHIL 250 (FW 2018/19). After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted and the information supplied by the instructors about the circumstances surrounding these courses, I have decided to grant your appeal.

The instructor of PHIL 257 has already submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed, which will appear on your transcript as A- along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.

You are permitted up to December 31, 2019 at the latest to complete the outstanding assignments in PHIL 250 and it is your responsibility to contact Professor Bakhurst to make the appropriate arrangements.

I suggest that going forward you make an effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. Please ensure you assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline and is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition.

I encourage you to continue to work with your support network including working with your QSAS Advisor who can help monitor both your health and your academics.

Best of luck during the upcoming year.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
