Course: PSYC236

Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Mackenzie Davidson:

I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you experienced last year and I have carefully considered your request to drop PSYC 236 (W 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of the various extenuating circumstances outlined and your valiant effort to complete as many of your courses as possible. I was also pleased to see that you dropped most of your winter term 2019 courses hoping that you could successfully complete this one. That was a good academic decision and although you were not able to complete the course, focusing on one only was a good attempt at finding a balance between your health and your academics. I should warn you however that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition and appeals to drop failed courses late will likely not be granted if they are based on the same circumstances. Appeals for late drops is generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute late in the term. I would strongly recommend that you follow through with your plan to continue to work with your health care supports. I suggest that you follow through with your plan to register with QSAS who can help you manage both your academics and your health by assisting you with arranging accommodations in your courses.

During week 7 of the term (just before the drop deadline), please take time to carefully evaluate whether you are keeping up in each of your courses. Evaluate whether you€™ve been doing the readings and completing all assignments or tests on time. If your circumstances are having an impact in your courses you should drop them by week 8 of term.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck with your degree progression

Yours sincerely,
