Dear Patrick Sawtell:

I read with interest the challenges you have reported in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your appeal to receive extensions of Incomplete Grades in POLS 402 and POLS 396 (W 2019). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to extend the Incomplete grade POLS 396 (W 2019) due to the support received from your instructor. You are permitted up to January 15, 2020 at the latest to complete the outstanding assignments in this course and it is your responsibility to contact your instructor to make the appropriate arrangements.

2. I will deny your request to extend the Incomplete grade in POLS 402 (W 2019). The information provided by your instructor noted that the course work outstanding is substantial and that your participation in this course was limited, even prior to your injury. I cannot therefore in good conscience allow you additional time to complete the course requirements.

As you had been advised previously, your request to add POLS 243 late was granted however the Registrar€™s Office has advised that there is a hold on your account so this course will not be added until that hold has been removed.

Going forward, I strongly suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind in your course work, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop date deadline.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the Ombudsman (www.queensu.ca/ombudsman) for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative.

I wish you well in your continued recovery.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
