Dear Makrukh Sultana:

I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in BIOL 102 (F 2017); MATH 121, PSYC 100, CHEM 112 (FW 2017/18); BIOL 103 (W 2018); and BIOL 243, HLTH 230 (F 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request for Credit in BIOL 243 and HLTH 230 (F 2018) based on your extenuating circumstances which is supported by documentation relevant to that timeline. Your grade in these courses will appear as CR on your transcript.

2. To deny your request to receive Credit in BIOL 102 (F 2017); MATH 121, PSYC 100, CHEM 112 (FW 2017/18) and BIOL 103 (W 2018). As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ The documentation you have submitted does not support circumstances which are extenuating in nature during this timeframe. Financial strain is not considered an extenuating circumstance.

Mahrukh, let me remind you that if a student repeats a course with a low grade, the higher grade earned will be including in the GPA and the lower grade will be excluded from the GPA. This may be a helpful strategy for you to consider if you are concerned about the impact these grades have on your cumulate GPA.

Going forward, I strongly suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term and if you have fallen behind or if your health is impacting your studies, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop date deadline.
