Dear Ms. Green:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop GPHY 101 (F 2014) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Normally an appeal without strong extenuating circumstances and no supporting documentation would be denied; however, I have decided to exercise some leniency in your case. It is clear from reading your appeal letter that you are struggling and the transition from high school to university has not been easy. I would strongly recommend that you visit the Learning Commons located in Stauffer Library and make an appointment to meet with a Learning Strategist to help you work on the skills that can help you adjust to studying in a university setting. I would also recommend that you consider meeting with an academic advisor here in the Faculty Office if you feel that you are continuing to struggle and we can go over your options with you. Appointments can be made by calling 613-533-2470. Health, Counselling and Disability Services located in the LaSalle Building also offers counselling appointments and workshops to students. Appointments can be made with their office by calling 613-533-6000 ext. 78264.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Yours sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
