Dear Nicole Bysiek:

I was sorry to have read of the health related challenges you experienced last year. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 241 (F 2018), PSYC 100 (FW 2018/19), SOCY 211, PSYC 221 (W 2019) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in PSYC 205, PSYC 251, SOCY 200 (F 2018) and PSYC 204 (W 2019). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grades in PSYC 205, PSYC 251, SOCY 200 and PSYC 204 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances as well as the fact that you are taking time away from your studies this term to prioritize your health. However, I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing or chronic problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I encourage you to work with your Counsellor and to register with QSAS who can help you manage both your health and your academics. This would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and dropping courses if you have fallen behind.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
