Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 6290
Decision Date: December 11, 2019
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Rachel Berry
Student Email: 14rb50@queensu.ca
Course: CISC 102
Term: Summer
Year: 2018
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Rachel Berry:
I was sorry to read of the challenges you have outlined and have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 102 (Summer 2018) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and also due to the fact that you were actively seeking support from your therapist during that timeframe. Going forward, a good practice for all students is to pause during week 7 of the term and carefully evaluate their progress in their courses. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Rachel, if your health related challenges are continuing, I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, and work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
