Course: POLS 261
Term: Fall
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Matthew Mullin:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your request to drop POLS 243 and POLS 261 (F 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I encourage you to continue to work with your health care team and to consider registering with QSAS who can assist you with ongoing accommodations to help you manage both your health and academics, if required. Going forward, I encourage you to pause and assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. The appeals process is not meant to manage an ongoing or chronic condition and future appeals based on the same circumstances will not be granted.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in your ongoing recovery.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
