I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 124 and CISC 220 (F 2014) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I would like to note that this is your third appeal submitted to the Associate Dean (Studies) based on the same set of extenuating circumstances. Please note that the appeals system is not designed to compensate for circumstances that are ongoing or chronic in nature for which the student is unable to unwilling to effectively resolve or manage. It appears that you did follow Dr. Horton€™s advice from your last appeal and you reduced your course load; however, it is clear that you are still struggling to manage your depression. I would further suggest you take the following steps:
1. Consult with your doctor and seek advice on how to best manage your condition while continuing with your studies.
2. Seek academic advising through the Faculty Office prior to each drop deadline to assess your progress and seek advice on whether or not you should drop courses.
3. Schedule an appointment with a Learning Strategist in the Learning Commons (located in Stauffer Library) to help identify your learning strengths and barriers and work to develop good strategies and skills to help you with your studies.
No further appeals based on these circumstances can be granted without evidence that you took active steps to address this issue.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts
and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
