Dear Zheng Zeng:

I was sorry to read that you have been dealing with health related challenges which have been difficult, I am sure. After carefully considering your appeal to drop MUSC 104, ECON 222 (F 2018); FREN 107 (W 2019); ENIN 207 (S 2019); ECON 222, EMPR 210, ECON 280, ECON 255 (F 2019) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. I encourage you to continue to work with your support network while you are in Vancouver and also suggest that, if you return to Queen€™s, you register with QSAS at Student Wellness Services. They can help you manage both your health and your academics. This could include taking a lighter course load again in the future and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in your continued recovery.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
