Decision Date: March 2, 2020
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Samantha Melnick
Student Email: 17sem9@queensu.ca
Course: CHEM 281
Term: Fall
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Samantha Melnick:
I was sorry to read about the difficult circumstances you have outlined in your letter of appeal. I am sure this has been difficult for you and your family. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CHEM 281 (F 2019) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I encourage you to continue to work with your counsellor and your QSAS Advisor who can help support both your health and academics. Going forward, you should pause and assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
I wish you and your family well at this time.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
