I have carefully considered your appeal to add ENSC 390 (W 2020) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I understand that you have been attending the lectures for this course which you are not entitled to do since you are not registered in the course. Therefore, your participation in this course is not relevant to an appeal to add a course late. In addition, this course was full by the last date to add so waiting to appeal to add the course once there was space available is not reason to grant this appeal. You also note in your letter of appeal that by not being in this course, your student visa may be influenced in the future. Since you are aware of this requirement for your visa, you should have registered in a different 4th course this term since ENSC 390 was full.
For your information, registration for our Summer term on-line courses began on February 3rd I would encourage you to review the course offerings during that upcoming term if you wish to drop courses this term to lighten your course load. The on-line courses available can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/.
