Dear Ryan Moore:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling with health related challenges this semester and have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 111, ECON 112, EMPR 110 (W 2020) and POLS 110 (FW 2019/20) past the academic deadline. I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances as well as the proactive steps you have taken this term by putting a pause on your studies so you could attend to your health. Going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Ryan, I see in your letter of appeal that you are considering not returning to Queen€™s due to your personal circumstances. If however you do choose to resume your studies at Queen€™s, I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS and work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
