Dear Luisa Aimoli:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 205, PSYC 370, FILM 215, HIST 246 (F 2018), CISC 223, CISC 325, CISC 497, COGS 400 and COGS 499 (W 2019) past the academic deadline; receive Credit standing in CISC 352 (W 2018) and SPAN 111 (F 2018); and receive Aegrotat Standing in PHIL 270 and CISC 332 (W 2018). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

€¢ To grant your request to drop PSYC 205, PSYC 370, FILM 215, HIST 246, CISC 223, CISC 325, CISC 497, COGS 400 and COGS 499.
€¢ To grant your request for Credit standing in CISC 352 and SPAN 111. Your grade in these courses will appear on your transcript as CR.
€¢ To deny your request for Aegrotat Standing in PHIL 270 and CISC 332 (W 2018). Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied. The information we received from your instructors in these courses has not convinced me that the learning outcomes have been met by the work you had completed and I cannot, in good conscience, alter your transcript and amend these course grades to a passing mark. I am however willing to drop these courses late. Please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter if you wish to accept that offer.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I encourage you to continue to work with your health supports and suggest you consider taking a lighter course load when you resume your studies.

Going forward, I suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you are struggling in your courses or if your health is suffering, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
