Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 6609
Decision Date: July 20, 2020

Dear Vivekha Kengatharan:
As per standard practice, I have reviewed your appeal before it proceeds to the Board of Studies for consideration. Based on the new documentation and additional information you supplied with this appeal, I have decided to change my original decision and grant your appeal to waive the 21 day appeal deadline as well as grant your request to €œWaive the Requirement to Withdraw for Three years€. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.
This decision was not made lightly Vivekha, but I was pleased to see that you have addressed the challenges you had experienced when you were registered previously.
As you continue in your course of study it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider (several of which you have already committed to carrying out):
€¢ Choose courses carefully. As you know, achieving a higher grade in a repeated course will improve your GPA. This course of action will mitigate the risk of being required to withdraw for three years when we next assess your transcript in May 2021.
€¢ Continue to reflect on your program choice and follow through with the academic plan you have outlined if that best meets your goals.
€¢ Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance. The Learning Commons provides a range of services, including on-line workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
€¢ Consider the services available to assist you if you encounter challenges of a personal nature including the Student Wellness Services Centre located on the first floor of Mitchell Hall, 69 Union Street. They offer personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
Please also read carefully the document which will follow this letter. It contains important information concerning your current academic standing. If you have any questions about the information, please contact the Faculty Office to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8. Students, such as yourself, who are managing ongoing challenges, are expected to evaluate the impact those challenges are having on their studies and use the drop deadline, not an appeal after the fact, as the remedy.
I wish you success in your future studies.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
