Dear Anna Rivard:
I am happy to have read that you were provided with accommodations in your Winter term classes when you were faced with an unexpected health issue in April of 2020. I understand that you are seeking Credit standing in GRMN 101 (Winter 2020) due to the impact that a family-related extenuating circumstance had on your ability to complete this course during the Summer term. After reviewing the documentation that you supplied and the information we have received from your instructor, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision, however, upon review of the information that we received from your instructor it appears that you successfully completed a test on June 14, after your family-related extenuated circumstance occurred, but then chose not to complete this course by not writing the deferred final exam that your instructor offered you.
