Dear Guonian Xu:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your appeal letter and I have carefully considered your request to drop MATH 111 (FW 2018/19), CISC 101 (F 2018) and CISC 121 (S 2019). Based on the information presented and your documentation, I have decided to grant your request.

Based on the information and documentation presented in your appeal, I am also willing to grant you Credit Standing in SOCY 122 and ECON 110 (FW 2018/19), GRMN 101 (W 2019) and MATH 121 (S 2019). Credit standing is a notation which replaces your grade on your transcript. The course is included in your degree requirements but the grade does not negatively impact your GPA. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

Guonian, I am heartbroken that you experienced such challenges during your first year of studies but commend you on your endurance for pressing forward to pursue your degree. I am very pleased to see that you are connected with Student Wellness Services, and I encourage you to continue to work with your Counsellor as needed.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. Please ensure you assess your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop your course by that drop date deadline. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. g consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
