Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 6898
Decision Date: September 21, 2020
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Yawen Xue
Student Email: 17yx33@queensu.ca

Dear Yawen Xue:

I have reviewed your request to complete 9.0 units of courses on an International Letter of Permission at a visiting university during the 2020/2021 academic year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.

I acknowledge that you submitted this appeal request as you would prefer to take ECON 422 at Queen€™s but it has a scheduling conflict with another course that you are enrolled in. I understand that this is a disappointing decision Yawen, but I would like to point out that there are alternate 400-level ECON courses offered during the Winter 2021 term that will meet your degree requirements just the same.

Also, Academic Regulation 14.4 states €œNormally the last two years of an Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s. A student in Level 3 or 4 may request a Letter of Permission to transfer up to 6.0 units from another post-secondary institution.€ You are therefore welcome to apply for an International Letter of Permission to take your remaining 6.0 units of electives if you would like. Please connect with the International Programs Office to start this process.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
