Dear Serene Nekoui:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and understand that these were difficult circumstances to deal with. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop DEVS 392 and POLS 382 (F 2019) past the academic deadline and receive Aegrotat standing in LAW 202 (F 2019). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your appeal to drop DEVS 392 and POLS 382 (F 2019).

2. To deny your request for Aegrotat standing in LAW 202 (F 2019). I understand that several extensions were made to accommodate your challenges throughout the course. I am happy to note that the instructor in this course advised that he is more than willing to accept the outstanding work in this course and in fact, prior to our reaching out to him regarding your request for AG standing, was under the impression that you were working on the outstanding requirements which are:
Case Study Part 3 - 7.5
Case Study Part 4 - 7.5
Case Study Part 5 - 15
Final Negotiation Reflection Assignment - 10

Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Completing all the work in the course, if possible, is always the preference to ensure the student demonstrates that the learning outcomes have been met. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control preventing them from completing the course within the term, or within an extended period of time, and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied.

I encourage you to continue to seek out medical supports as you deal with the circumstances outlined and I strongly suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term. If you have fallen behind in your studies due to your health or other extenuating circumstances, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline date.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
