I have carefully considered your appeal to add POLS 261 and POLS 243 (Fall 2020) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision Shiwei but POLS 243 is currently full and although POLS 261 is open, we did not receive the support of the instructor for this late add request as your academic record indicates that it may be difficult to catch up on three weeks of missed work. I commend you for returning to your studies after being away for 3 years but want to remind you that you are on academic probation. I would suggest that you dedicate the rest of the Fall term to being successful in the 9.0 units of courses that you are already enrolled in.
