I am sorry to have read about the health challenges you faced at the end of the Winter term and have carefully considered your appeal to drop CHEM 112 (Fall/Winter 2019/2020) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision, however, the documentation that you provided does not indicate the timeline of your health issues nor the impact that they had on your academics during the Winter term. Also, the Faculty of Arts and Science allowed students until June 10, 2020 at the latest to drop Winter term courses due to the impacts of Covid-19. It appears from your SOLUS history that you did drop your other Winter 2020 term courses on May 14, 2020 and your appeal letter doesn€™t explain why you didn€™t also drop CHEM 112 before this extended deadline.
I empathize with your situation Diana, but I simply cannot grant your request at this time. If you decide to take future courses at Queens, I strongly encourage you to register with QSAS so that you can work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.
