I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal about the recent health issues that both of your parents had experienced and understand the impact that this must have had on your ability to manage your academic requirements during that time. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 111 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised some leniency in this decision as you reported in your letter of appeal that you were made aware of the Fall term drop deadline however, I recognize that you have taken the smart academic advice from your coach to drop a course that you were falling behind in and that you had attempted to drop this course in SOLUS only one day past the deadline. Going forward, I suggest that you consider using the supports the university has available during this difficult year, including requesting Academic Consideration for extensions in course work if necessary, as well as the support services offered through Student Wellness Services to help you through difficult circumstances.
A good practice for all students is to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the drop deadline. Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
