Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Bridgette Dancause:

I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have found the remote learning a challenge which has impacted your courses and your health. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 318 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal, I have decided to grant your request.

A good practice for all students Bridgette is to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the drop deadline. Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions. I also encourage you to consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, as they can help monitor both your health and academics.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I encourage you to continue to work with your health care supports, which you have wisely put in place, who can assist you during this difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
