I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have found the remote learning a challenge which has impacted your mental health and your course work. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop MICR 386 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging the difficult challenges related to COVID19 and remote learning; that there were some concerns regarding this course expressed by other members of the course; and that you were unable to make an informed decision to drop the course until after the drop date deadline.
If you find the balance of the year a challenge due to the remote learning requirement, I suggest that you consider using the supports the university has available during this difficult year, including requesting Academic Consideration for extensions in course work if necessary, as well as the support services offered through Student Wellness Services to help you through difficult circumstances.
A good practice for all students Ryan is to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the drop deadline. Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
