Dear Caitlin Reid:
I am sorry to have read of the challenges you outlined regarding the completion of the course requirements in HLTH 230 (S 2020) I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat Standing in that course based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
Unfortunately, you were unable to provide documentation to support your appeal, and while I realize there are barriers to getting documentation, it is important that there be some type of verification to support the timeline, severity and impact your circumstances may have had on this course. In addition, the course outline is clear regarding this 3-day meal intake project and you had plenty of time to review the course expectations prior to the drop date deadline. And finally, the instructor was willing to allow you to complete your project using another person€™s food intake but you declined that offer.
Going forward, I suggest that you carefully evaluate the course expectations and your progress in courses prior to the drop date deadline, and if you are struggling with the course expectations, or if your health is suffering, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
