Dear Christian Sos:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling with health-related challenges this semester and have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 261 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances as well as the proactive steps you have taken by reaching out to mental health care professionals and to consider taking a lighter course load and evaluating your course selection. I encourage you to discuss with your therapist the possibility of registering with QSAS and to work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
