Dear Ethan Orlander:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling with health related challenges this semester and have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 327, CISC 235 and COMM 251 (F 2020) past the academic deadline. I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances as well as the proactive steps you have taken by reaching out to a psychotherapist and other health care professionals who can assist you during this time. Going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Ethan, I see in your letter of appeal that you are in the process of registering with QSAS, and I encourage you to follow through with that process and work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
