I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal of the difficulties you have had this term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop HIST 104 (F 2020) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the challenges you have outlined regarding the completion of your course remotely and encourage you to connect with some of our many resources Jizhou. For example, SASS (http://sass.queensu.ca/) is available to help you manage your workload and assist you with some learning tools such as time management and essay preparation. We also have an International Centre (https://quic.queensu.ca/) and they are offering many services remotely this year which you may find helpful. I would also like to connect you with a Peer Mentor and have passed your information along to a PASS Advisor who will be in touch in the new year to also be a resource for you as you navigate the university structure.
Going forward, a good practice for all students is to pause and evaluate their progress in their courses prior to the drop date deadline. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
