Dear Benjamin Bomberg:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling with health related challenges this semester and have carefully considered your appeal to drop HIST 286, POLS 230 and POLS 261 (F 2020) past the academic deadline. I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances as well as the proactive steps you have taken this term by reaching out to Student Wellness and encourage you to continue to seek support from that office. I also suggest you consider registering with QSAS who may be able to assist you by putting accommodations in place to help you manage both your health and academics. That would include pausing to evaluate your progress in your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Benjamin, I encourage you to carefully consider how you are feeling in January and if time away from your studies is recommend, I strongly suggest you follow that advise since future appeals based on these same circumstances may not be granted in the future.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
