I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal of the loss of your cousin and certainly understand that impacted your studies this term. I have carefully considered your request to drop ENSC 290 and POLS 243 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
This is somewhat of a lenient decision James since you did have time to assess how this circumstance was impacting your studies prior to the drop date deadline, but I am granting the appeal due to your decision to seek out support from your health care professionals and are now dealing with your grief and anxiety. I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. Please ensure you assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
