Appeal Number: 7242
Decision Date: January 18, 2021
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Paige Lowman
Student Email: 20pml@queensu.ca
Course: BIOL 102
Term: Fall
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Paige Lowman:
I was sorry to read that you experienced some challenges with your courses during the Fall term as well as challenges related to your mental health. After carefully considering your appeal to drop BIOL 102 (F 2020) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.
I have granted this appeal based on the extenuating circumstances outlined as well as the pro-active steps you have taken to seek out support, lighten your course load, and try and address the isolation that you felt during the Fall term. I encourage you to continue to work with your health care team and to consider registering with QSAS, if your medical team supports that, and work with an accommodation advisor who can help you manage both your health and your academics. This would include evaluating the impact of your health and life circumstances on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck this term.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
