Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Gobind Dhugee:
I was sorry to read about the difficulties you have encountered related to your health and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 101 (S 2020) and PHIL 329, PSYC 236 (F 2020) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in PHIL 318 (F 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in PHIL 318 will appear on your transcript as CR.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and your documentation, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I encourage you to work with your QSAS Advisor who can help you manage both your health and your academics. I also suggest you continue to work closely with your health care provider who can monitor your treatments related to your recent diagnosis. You may also want to consider taking a lighter course load and you should ensure that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to week 8 of term and drop courses which are affected by your extenuating circumstances. I see you are currently in a full course load Gobind, so please take note of this advice because an appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck this term.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
