Dear Marisa Pizzolat:

I am sorry to have read of your ongoing health issues and the impacts that they have had on your Fall term classes. I have reviewed your appeal to drop ITLN 111 (Fall 2020) after the academic deadline and your request for Credit Standing in CISC 121 and CISC 102 (Fall 2020) and have decided to grant your request.

Your grade in ITLN 111 will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript and your grades in CISC 121 and CISC 102 will be replaced with a CR notation.

I have granted this appeal based on the exacerbation of your extenuating circumstances during the Fall 2020 term but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. Going forward, you should pause to evaluate the impact of your health on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Also, as per advice that we received from Dr. Hu, it is strongly recommended that you consider repeating CISC 121 so that you can be better prepared to succeed in upper year courses offered by the School of Computing. CISC 121 is offered in the upcoming Summer term and so I hope that you will seriously consider this recommendation from your instructor.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
