Dear Zhen Yang:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and understand that these were difficult circumstances to deal with. I have carefully considered your appeal receive Credit standing in MATH 221 and CISC 324 (F 2020) and receive Aegrotat standing in CISC 457 (F 2020). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your appeal for Credit standing MATH 221 and CISC 324 (F 2020) since the letter from Student Wellness Services attests to functional impairment during the month of December. Your grade in these courses will appear on your transcript as CR.

2. To deny your request for Aegrotat standing in CISC 457 (F 2020). The instructor has advised that you completed all the course requirements, so you do not qualify for Aegrotat standing in this course. Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control preventing them from completing the course within the term, or within an extended period of time, and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied.

I am however willing to drop CISC 457 late based on your circumstances outlined and the documentation you have provided. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

I encourage you to continue to seek out medical supports as you deal with the circumstances outlined and I strongly suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term. If you have fallen behind in your studies due to your health or other extenuating circumstances, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline date.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
