I received your letter of appeal requesting a late drop in DRAM 246 (F 2019) and DRAM 246 (W 2020) and have reviewed the circumstances you have outlined as well as the documentation submitted. After reviewing your appeal, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control. Please also note that Appeal Regulation 3.3.2 states that classes in which a student has received a passing grade may not be dropped.
I am sure this is a disappointing decision, but ultimately you did enrol in the course three times and therefore participated in three practicum projects where you did gain excellent experience since you had three opportunities to work on various aspects of a theatrical production. In addition, the information we received from the department notes that you were advised to not register in the course again and the mix up with the Academic Advisement Report (AAR) would be investigated however you proceeded to request additional registration. And finally, the course did show up on your transcript which was a telltale sign that your AAR was not formatting correctly.
If you wish to appeal my decision to the Board of Studies, you must do so within 21 days of receiving this letter.
