I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your request to drop PHIL 445 (F 2020) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in PHIL 203 (F 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in PHIL 203 will appear on your transcript as CR.
I have granted this appeal based on the emergency move you outlined in your letter of appeal. I also noted the health-related challenges you outlined but my decision to grant this appeal was not based on that situation since the documentation you submitted regarding that challenge did not provide me with information regarding the timeline, severity and impact your circumstances had on your studies. I am however sorry to have read that you have experienced difficulties with your mental health, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. With respect to those challenges, I encourage you to reach out to our Student Wellness Services if you would find support from a Counsellor helpful. I was pleased to see that you are taking a lighter course load this term, and remind you that a good practice for all students is to pause and evaluate their progress in courses prior to week 8 of term and drop courses which are affected by extenuating circumstances.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
