Dear Lyle Muscat:

I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have experienced both physical and mental health related challenges this term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 391 and CISC 101 (W 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal due to the decision you made earlier in the term to lighten your course load. I have also based this decision on your proactive search for assistance as I understand you have an appointment with a health care provider on March 26th. If it is determined that you will be experiencing ongoing physical health challenges, I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS if you are not registered with them already due to your learning challenges. A QSAS Advisor can help implement recommended accommodations that will assist your management of both your health and your academics. It is my expectation that going forward, you will carefully check the drop date deadline and assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
