Appeal Number: 7398
Decision Date: March 22, 2021
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: JIADONG YANG
Student Email: 17jy20@queensu.ca

Dear Jiadong Yang:

I have carefully considered your appeal for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 250 (FW 2018/2019) and Aegrotat Standing in ECON 232 (W 2019) and PHIL 257 (FW 2018/2019). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 250 (FW 2018/2019). You will have until April 30, 2021, at the latest, to complete the outstanding work in this class and it is your responsibility to connect with Professor Farrelly to make the arrangements. I am also willing to drop your currently enrolled POLS 250 (FW 2020/2021) after the academic deadline as per the support that I received from Professor Farrelly regarding this class.

2. To grant your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in ECON 232 (W 2019) as the information that I received from your instructor, confirms that the due date of the outstanding work corresponds with the timeline of your extenuating circumstances. Your instructor has already submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed which will appear on your transcript as B- along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.

3. To deny your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in PHIL 257 (FW 2018/2019). I want to remind you that Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€ I acknowledge that you were impacted by an extenuating circumstance during the 2019 Winter term but your instructor has reported that you were able to complete all of the work in this course except for one paper that was due between February 10, 2019 and February 15, 2019. Unfortunately, without supporting documentation to confirm the severity and impact of your extenuating circumstances on your academic abilities during this timeline, I cannot grant your request.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information about this appeal option and the 21 day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
