I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for a Minimum of Three Years. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.
In order to reactivate your student file, you must complete a €œReturn to Studies€ form: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/Return_to_Studies_Form.pdf and return it to our office as soon as possible. Please ensure you indicate your desired degree program and plan (concentration). Once our office has received departmental approval of your degree plan, your file will be reactivated. As you might be aware, the academic regulations and grading system have now changed at Queen€™s. Academic Regulation 13 states that at the end of each Winter Term in which a student has attempted 18.0 or more units since the time of their previous assessment, that student is assessed for academic progression. If, at the time of this assessment, the GPA is below 1.60 an academic sanction is triggered. In your case, since you have a previous requirement to withdraw on your record, that sanction would be a requirement to withdraw for a further three years. Your current GPA is 0.90. Assuming a course load of 24.0 units (4 courses/12.0 units per term) next year, this will occur at the end of the Winter Term 2015. To raise your Plan GPA and Cumulative GPA to 1.60, you must repeat all of your failed DRAM courses (18.0 units plus 6.0 units of new courses) and achieve grades in the B-range or higher on those courses. If you fail to achieve this standard, you could be required to withdraw again for three years. In addition to the advising that you are receiving through the Drama Department, I would strongly suggest that once you return to campus, you schedule an appointment to meet with an academic counselor in the Faculty Office to review the changes to the academic regulations, review your transcript and go over different scenarios to help you reach this GPA target.
A cumulative GPA of 1.60 is also required to graduate with a three-year General degree. I would draw your attention to the full academic regulations, particularly 13 (Academic Standing) and 16 (Requirements to Graduate) in the Arts and Science Academic Calendar (http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/academic-calendars/2011-2012-calendar/academic-regulations). I would also refer you the GPA calculator tool on the Arts and Science website (http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/academics/undergraduate/current-students/grading-scheme/what-is-my-gpa).
Academic counselling appointments from an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services office can be made by dropping in to our office in F200 Mackintosh-Corry Hall or by phoning 533-2470. You may also wish to contact your department of concentration for advice on the successful completion of your academic program. The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. The Health, Counselling and Disabilities Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street also offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
I hope that you will take advantage of the support services available to you at Queen's. In returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan.
