I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop GEOL 106 (F 2020) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your decision to take some time away from your studies this term and focus on your health. I have also noted that you have now met with a counsellor and strongly suggest you follow their advice to participate in social activities when we are all able to do so. If your circumstances worsen, I suggest you ensure that you make your health care provider aware of that and discuss the possibility of registering with QSAS if your challenges will be ongoing when you resume your studies at Queen€™s. A QSAS Advisor can assist you with implementing accommodations and will help you manage both your health and your academics.
Going forward, a good practice for all students is to carefully assess their progress in courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If they find that they have fallen behind in attendance, readings or assignments, it is the student€™s responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline and includes documentation.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
